Île d'Orléans, Quebec (Interpretive Signs - Urban Revitalization)
Project: Île d’Orléans Coastal Constellations
Year: 2026
We are proud to have contributed to the Île d’Orléans Coastal Constellations project by producing the markers that dot this unique discovery trail!
As part of this revitalization project, Kalitec produced eight signage signs designed for the walking trails of Île d’Orléans.
Installed across the region—specifically in the municipalities of Saint-Jean-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, Saint-François-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, Saint-Laurent-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, and Sainte-Pétronille—these panels guide visitors as they explore the island, while showcasing its landscapes and attractions.
This assignment was a rewarding challenge for our team, spanning everything from the innovative design concept to production—and particularly the panel sublimation process, where print quality, color accuracy, and durability were crucial to the project's success. Thanks to our attention to detail and expertise that pushed new boundaries, we delivered a product that exceeded initial expectations!
Beyond the technical challenges, this project was particularly stimulating for our design team. Starting with a blank slate, they worked hand-in-hand with the client, exploring various ideas and concepts until the desired result was achieved. This personalized support—from the initial draft to final installation—played a major role in the project's success. In fact, three distinct concepts were developed before arriving at the final version, allowing us to refine every detail and validate the best approach.

Designing these steles also presented a significant technical challenge. Unlike conventional structures, each unit consists of three stacked aluminum panels, forming a unique assembly created specifically for this project. This approach required great precision at every stage of fabrication to ensure perfect component alignment, a flawless finish, and long-term durability. To showcase the visuals and information, the panels were produced with an ALTO finish and a high-quality sublimation process, delivering exceptional color rendering, excellent weather resistance, and harmonious integration into the landscape of Île d'Orléans.
The chosen anchoring system also reflects the project's commitment to prioritizing sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions. The steles were installed using anchor stakes driven directly into the ground, thereby eliminating the need for traditional concrete foundations. This method offers several advantages: it significantly reduces installation costs, minimizes environmental impact, and allows the structures to be removed or relocated if necessary without leaving a permanent mark on the site. Conversely, a concrete-based installation would have entailed higher costs and a greater environmental impact, as well as additional waiting time for the concrete to cure before the equipment could be put into service.

Moreover, thanks to its curved sides, the stele gains depth and visual presence, standing out naturally in the landscape.

At once informative and distinctive, they combine mapping, wayfinding, and interpretive content into signage designed to blend harmoniously with the unique character of Île d’Orléans.
It is always rewarding to see our expertise applied to projects that showcase Quebec’s heritage and landscape, and this project is a perfect example.
A project in which signage becomes an integral part of the visitor experience and the discovery of the area.
